The Columbia River Gorge is a natural wonder carved by the meandering Columbia River between rolling summits, basalt spires, cliff faces, talus slopes, and synclines in the shadow of the Cascade’s snow-capped volcanic peaks. This awesome display of natural forces has drawn people for millennia, from early Native American inhabitants to famous explorers, hardy settles, romantic visionaries, and modern outdoor adventurers. Today, the area is known for its scenic vistas and outdoor recreation – including hiking, biking, fishing, whitewater rafting, paddling, and wind sports. Its scenery, recreation, agriculture, and forests are all protected by law, while small communities within the area offer artisan shops, local gourmet fare, and historic museums to visitors from around the world.  

This map covers Washington and Oregon lands along the Columbia River from Portland to Celilo, nearly 60 miles east. Portions of the Gifford Pinchot and Mount Hood National Forests are the main public lands included, as well as many state lands.

The Pacific Northwest Recreation Map Series is jointly created by the Bureau of Land Management and US Forest Service. They provide surface land status and key recreation features like roads, campgrounds, and day use areas on federal lands (including National Forests, National Parks, US Fish & Wildlife Service lands, and more)
